The Colin Hibbs League was originally called "The Halifax League" because at that time it was sponsored by the Halifax Building Society. The change of name to "The Colin Hibbs League" occurred in 2009 in memory of Colin Hibbs, Chairman of Donyngs IBC from 2004 to 2007.
When the league was formed, the original idea was to encourage members of outdoor bowls clubs to "have a go" at indoor bowling. It has certainly succeeded in this aim and this year the league comprises fifteen Outdoor Bowls Clubs Teams many of whom have been members since it’s inception more than 10 years ago.
The Outdoor Bowls Clubs who compete in the Colin Hibbs League include :
- Ashtead BC
- Bletchingley BC
- Bookham BC
- Caterham BC
- Dorking BC
- Felbridge BC
- Godstone BC
- Gonville BC
- Monotype BC
- Old Coulsdon BC
- Purley Bury BC
- Redhill BC
- Reigate Priory BC
- Warlingham Park BC
"Hibbs League" matches are played on most Saturdays and Sundays from 12.00hrs to 14.00hrs throughout the indoor season but Clubs are rarely, if ever, asked to play twice in any weekend.
Matches consist of four players per team, however each team member can only play between three and five times per season.
There is no "membership fee", just a rink fee of £3.00 per person.
If you are a member of an Outdoor Bowls Club and are not included in the above list, why not have a word with your Club Committee and ask them if your club can compete in the Donyngs "Hibbs League".
