Donyngs IBC

East Surrey's "Centre of Bowling Excellence"

Congratulations to Steve Whiting who is a member of the Surrey Mens Over 60s squad who have qualified for the National Final by comprehensibly beating Dorset on Tues. 23 Feb. The final will be played at Nottingham IBC on Easter Sunday against the winner of Yorkshire v Nottinghamshire.

This is the second year of inviting groups of bowlers from Surrey & Sussex who are disabled. This year there will be teams of 4 with 2 players from Donyngs and 2 from our guest bowlers. We would like 24 players of all ages and bowling experience to take part, and hope that some members who don’t usually play in matches will make an exception for this one.

It will take place on Sunday 31st January 2016, 1.30pm for 2.00pm start.  Play will finish about 5.00, to be followed by afternoon tea. The cost for the whole afternoon, including tea, will be £2.50.

Dress code ~ smart casual with bowling shoes

We also need some helpers for the afternoon. Please sign up for this match as a player or a helper by Sunday10th January on the notice on the white flip-chart easel opposite the board which has the lists for matches. If you have any raffle prizes, we would be very pleased to receive them ~ please give to Roger Battley, Denise Smith, Jane King, Janet Colliss or Elaine Lush.

Donyngs will be hosting a Junior Bowls Open Day on Sunday 10 January 2016 for 9-18 year-olds and their families. The day is aimed at bowlers of all standards - beginner to expert. The Club will open at 10:30, and the day will run from 11:00 till 16:00. Refreshments will be available, and there are competitions and prizes.

Following the success of last year's event Donyngs IBC were again chosen to host the Ladies Under 25 Singles South regional play-off this year. We were also delighted to have Alan Thornhill umpire the event.

The event was held on Sunday 22nd November, and saw the very best 16 lady bowlers from clubs throughout the South of England. The bowling was of an exceptionally high standard.

The day consisted of two rounds of matches followed by a semi-final and final with the winning four ladies going through to the U25 Singles Finals to be played at White Oak on 6th & 7th February 2016 against the other three Regions (North, East & West) with the winners then forming the England International team.

The winners on the day were Paige Dennis (Swale), Imogen Jenner (Swale), Alice Phillimore (Egerton Park) and Nicole Rogers (London Vale). We congratulate them all, and wish them the best of luck in the finals.

Many congratulations to both Marie Sanderson and Val Hobart who played for Surrey C.W.I.B.A. against Berkshire C.W.I.B.A. at Camberley IBC on Sunday 15th November 2015 in the Atherley Trophy. Marie and Val played in the same team as Lead and Three and won on their rink, whilst Surrey C.W.I.B.A. won the match overall by some 30 plus shots.
